Mostly Romance

มีข่าวรางวัลที่อาจจะเรียกได้ว่าใหญ่ที่สุดในวงการหนังสือโรแมนซ์มาฝากกันนะคะ

นั่นก็คือรางวัลริต้า ที่เมื่อวาน (ตามเวลาในประเทศไทย) ได้มีการประกาศรายชื่อผู้เข้าชิงกันไปเรียบร้อยแล้ว ซึ่งบอกตามตรงว่าแม็กซ์ตื่นเต้นไปกะเขาด้วยมาก ๆ เลยล่ะ และไม่ใช่เพราะว่าเราเชื่อถืออะไรในรางวัลนี้หรอกนะคะ แต่เพราะปีนี้ แม็กซ์จะได้มีโอกาสไปอยู่ร่วมในงานแจกรางวัลกับเขาด้วย เราก็เลยลุ้นให้นักเขียนที่เราชอบมาก ๆ เข้าชิงกะเขา (เพื่อจะได้เป็นการรับประกันว่า พวกเธอจะต้องมางาน RWA ในเดือนกรกฎาคมปีนี้แน่นอน) 

สำหรับคนที่ไม่คุ้นกับชื่อรางวัลริต้า แม็กซ์ก็ขอยืมคำอธิบายของเพื่อนคนนึงของแม็กซ์ที่บอกว่า ให้เปรียบเทียบรางวัลนี้กับรางวัลออสการ์ของภาพยนตร์ เพราะมันเป็นรางวัลในระดับเดียวกัน เพียงแต่หนังสือที่มีสิทธิเข้าแข่งขันชิงรางวัลนี้ จะต้องเสียเงินค่าสมัคร และผู้แต่งจะต้องเป็นสมาชิกในองค์กร RWA (หรือ Romance Writers of America) แต่ไม่จำเป็นต้องเป็นคนอเมริกัน เพราะสเตฟานี ลอว์เรนส์ซึ่งเป็นคนออสเตรเลียก็ยังได้เข้าชิงเลยค่ะ

ในบรรดาทั้งหกเล่มที่เข้าชิง แม็กซ์อ่านไปแล้วเล่มเดียวเองค่ะ นั่นก็คือ Private Arrangement ที่นอกจากจะได้เข้าชิงรางวัลหนังสือเล่มแรกแล้ว ยังได้เข้าชิงรางวัลแนวย้อนยุคยอดเยี่ยมอีกด้วย แม็กซ์ชอบเรื่องนี้มากค่ะ และเชียร์สุดใจ 

ตอนแรกก็งงนะคะว่า ทำไมเรื่อง The Spymaster's Lady ของโจแอนนา บอร์นถึงไม่ได้เข้าชิงรางวัลนี้ด้วย ทั้งที่มาแรงจะตาย แต่พอคิดไปก็เลยนึกออกว่า มันไม่ใช่เรื่องแรกของโจแอนนานี่หว่า (ดังนั้นขออภัยเพื่อน ๆ ที่แม็กซ์บ่นเรื่องนี้ไปด้วยนะคะ หน้าแตกมากเลยเรา)

รางวัลนี้เรียกว่า ช้างสิบเอ็ดตัวชนกันค่ะ (หรืออย่างน้อยก็แปดตัวล่ะ) เพราะดูรายชื่อผู้เข้าชิงแต่ละคนแล้ว ล้วนแต่เป็นหน้าเก่าที่คงทนอยู่นาน ไม่ว่าจะเป็นลิซ่า เคลย์แพส หรือสเตฟานี ลอว์เรนส์ นักเขียนระดับกลางที่กำลังจะก้าวเป็นซุปเปอร์สตาร์อย่าง เอลอยซ่า เจมส์ นักเขียนหน้าใหม่ที่มาแรงสุดในยุคนี้อย่าง อลิซาเบ็ธ ฮอยท์, เชอรี่ โธมัส, และโจแอนนา บอร์น แถมยังมีนักเขียนขวัญใจชาวอาร์ต (แปลว่า งานของเธอถูกอ่านในเฉพาะกลุ่ม) อย่างแพม โรแซนเธล ก่อนจะปิดท้ายด้วยลอร์เรนน์ ฮีทนักเขียนที่อาจไม่เลื่องชื่อ แต่ก็มีผลงานอย่างสม่ำเสมอ

ไม่มีรายชื่อของนักเขียนดังที่นักอ่านคนไทยคุ้นหูกันนะคะ ไม่ว่าจะเป็นเชอริลีน เคนย่อน หรือเจอาร์ วาร์ด (แต่เจอาร์ก็เพิ่งรางวัลนี้ไปเมื่อปีก่อน) แต่ก็ยังมีอีกหลายคนเลยล่ะที่มาแรง ไม่ว่าจะเป็นนลินี ซิงค์ หรือจีน่า โชว์วอลเตอร์ ที่แม้จะเข้าชิงด้วยเรื่องที่ไม่ใช่เล่มที่แม็กซ์ชอบมากที่สุด แต่ก็ดีใจแทนค่ะที่ได้เข้าชิง

แต่เล่มที่แม็กซ์เชียร์มาก ๆ จริง ๆ ก็คือเรื่อง Moonstruck ของซูซาน แกรนต์ ที่เอาแก่นเรื่องสงครามมาเขียนผสมไปกับโรแมนซ์ได้ดีมาก ๆ และเราคิดว่า เล่มนี้แหละที่เหมาะสมกับรางวัลริต้า

2009 RITA Finalists for Regency Historical Romance (รางวัลโรแมนซ์แนวย้อนยุคที่เกิดในยุครีเจนซี่)

เป็นอีกรางวัลค่ะที่ช้างชนกัน โดยเฉพาะสเตฟานี ลอว์เรนส์ และโจแอนน่า บอร์นที่สามารถพาหนังสือสองเล่มที่เธอออกขายในปีที่แล้ว เข้าชิงริต้าได้ทั้งสองรางวัล

น่าลุ้นค่ะ 

2009 RITA Finalists for Romance Novella (รางวัลสำหรับเรื่องสั้น)

แม็กซ์ชอบเรื่อง Thicker than blood ของเมลจีนมาก ๆ (และชักจะสงสัยว่าทำไมเธอไม่เข้าชิงในประเภทพารานอมอลกับเรื่อง Demon Bound แต่อย่างว่าค่ะ ของอย่างนี้คาดการณ์กันยาก)

2009 RITA Finalists for Romantic Suspense (รางวัลสำหรับโรแมนซ์แนวโรแมนติคสืบสวน)

นี่เป็นอีกรางวัลที่ช้างชนกันค่ะ แม้ว่านักเขียนอาจจะไม่ได้อยู่ในระดับดังโคตร ๆ แต่แต่ละคนก็ถือว่าเป็นดาวรุ่งหน้าใหม่มาแรงมาก ๆ ในวงการโรแมนติคสืบสวน

2009 RITA Finalists for Young Adult Romance (รางวัลสำหรับโรแมนซ์สำหรับเด็กวัยรุ่น)

นี่เป็นอีกแนวนึงที่แม็กซ์อ่านน้อยจนถึงน้อยที่สุดค่ะ ก็เลยไม่มีความเห็น

รางวัลริต้าจะถูกประกาศในวันที่ 18 กรกฎาคม 2009 ที่เมืองวอชิงตัน ดี.ซี. ในวันสุดท้ายของงาน RWA Conference ที่ีมีแอน สจ๊วต (เจ้าของรางวัลริต้าในปี 2008 จากเรื่อง Ice Blue) เป็นพิธีกร
